A Bright Spot

I watched the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris yesterday.

And I cried.

“What?!! Are you PMS-ing?” you ask.

I don’t think so. I just felt hopeful for our country for the first time in quite a while.

By the by, this is not an endorsement of Biden or the Democratic party or anything like that. They’re not going to save us. I’m sorry, but the government is not that powerful. Nevertheless, we saw the (mostly) peaceful transfer of power. We sang “Amazing Grace” together with a minimum of flourishes. The primarily old, white, and male leaders of our country listened as a beautiful young black woman spoke of how we can make the world a better place.

I may write about Amanda Gorman’s poem, “The Hill We Climb,” more, but, for now, let’s just live in her final thought:

“For there is always light,

if only we’re brave enough to see it.

If only we’re brave enough to be it.”
